Details about the sessions
Session 1: Navigating the Arc of Staff Development
The SEED model is an integrated approach to staff development. It combines assessment of the learning context (new or experienced) with a four tiered developmental approach to working with a staff member (moving from directive to suggestive communication styles). As people learn new skills they need to move along this developmental arc to build their understanding, confidence and capacity to handle the complexities of each task and gain the experience needed to problem solve and think creatively and flexibly as variations in the context occur. In this session, participants will learn Be the Change’s Arc of Staff Development Framework and explore strategies to move across a spectrum from supervision, management, coaching and thought partnership.
- Reflect on the identities we bring into work that can support or hinder our relationships with our teams.
- Learn Be the Change’s Arc of Staff Development Framework and explore strategies to move across a spectrum from supervision, management, coaching and thought partnership.
- Understand how to mentor and coach any employee into a proactive member of the team.
Session 2: Providing Observation Based Feedback
Observation and feedback is a process that is vitally important in education and learning. Teachers observe their students on an ongoing basis and provide feedback according to the success, or otherwise, of learning activities in the classroom. Students observe their teachers on an ongoing basis, while feedback is provided in terms of their response to instructions and effective completion of tasks. This relationship is symbolic and similar to the relationship of a supervisor and their teams. When done correctly, feedback from a supervisor can motivate employees to be more productive as well as happier and more positive than employees who receive little or no feedback. In this session, participants will learn the approach of providing observation based feedback to support employee development.
- Examine how our past and current relationship to giving and receiving feedback makes it challenging to provide authentic feedback
- Understand how creating a culture of offering feedback can foster connection and relationship building
- Learn how to create a community where giving and receiving feedback is part of professional development
Session 3: Coaching Skills for Supervision
Coaching is a process of helping employees grow their own potential by eliminating obstacles that interfere with effective performance. At its core, coaching isn’t about teaching, managing, or directing. It’s about helping people to learn on their own so that they can perform their best. Coaching skills for supervision focuses on the development of the coach’s capacity through offering a richer and broader opportunity for support and development. Coaching Supervision creates a safe environment for the coach to share their successes and failures in becoming masterful in the way they work with their teams. In this session, participants will practice the coaching methodology of staying curious and empowering their staff rather than solving problems for them.
- Learn how to create a safe environment for your teams to share their successes and opportunities areas
- Try on the Perspective Board process to support staff coaching strategies to find their own inner champion.
- Understand the skill of deep listening is the foundation to transformative coaching

I really appreciated the hands on skills at the end of the session.
Very engaging and extremely informed – presented material in an accessible and interesting manner.
I would recommend at least 3 hours for this training.

It’s a different facilitation style that you have but I can see how it works. It’s a much more human experience, rather than a student teacher discussion. I’m impressed.
Great Job.
