Staff teams who learn together, grow together and engage in creative problem solving.
Over the past five years, Be the Change Consulting has designed and facilitated staff learning communities for a variety of organizations. These learning communities can be focused around a specific topic, such as Self Care, Youth Development, Common Core, Restorative Practices, Healing from Vicarious Trauma, or Cultural Competency. They can also be facilitated spaces for group coaching, team building, and support to build intentional community as a staff, responsive to current needs of the team.
We have found that organizations and schools working in high-need communities require specialized support. Where work brings increased exposure to vicarious trauma, interpersonal conflict increases--amongst staff or between staff and constituents. Our research shows that creating a professional learning community can keep people connected and build resiliency to stay focused on the organizational mission. For these contexts, we offer a tailored blend of experiences that combine professional skill building with resiliency strategies--to create tools to fight compassion-fatigue. The more staff in these contexts can visibilize systemic trauma, the better they are at correctly identifying sources of stress, without devolving to interpersonal conflicts or frustration with youth, families, or the communities they are trying to serve.
